As a green company, Consumable Media LLC, in all cases possible, works to implement and adhere to responsible recycling programs to reduce our environmental footprint. One of the natural concerns with our limited play optical disc technology is the scenario of thousands or millions of unusable discs being deposited in landfills. Through our recycling program, we believe we have responsibly addressed this issue.
Where available, some local or regional municipalities handle the recycling of optical discs. However, in many areas around the U.S., recycling of this type of media is not available. To combat waste from landfills, we provide to our licensing customers and along with our products a pre-printed label that is contained within the optical disc sleeve. After the disc is no longer readable, the disc may be reinserted in the sleeve and the pre-printed label may be adhered to the outside of the sleeve.
The spent optical disc package can be dropped in a mail box or at any U.S. Postal Service center. The disc will be mailed to our recycling center for 100% de-manufacturing and recycling. We accept the responsibility for ensuring that the product is delivered to our approved recycling facility and is recycled for its material use and prevented from release to the environment.
With DVD movie rentals, it is common that the return of a disc to a rental store requires individual consumers to use transportation to return the disc to the store. In just one week in the U.S., it is estimated that as many as 26 million consumers drive to video rental stores to return movies. The environmental impact of millions of vehicles burning gas and oil is massive, and a limited play DVD product can actually reduce the number of people driving to return movies.
In our limited play optical disc recycling model, we use common central receiving points and then rely on mass transportation for the return of discs.
